Light in Our Hearts

KEEPING OURSELVES PURE

When we get into things that are wrong we put things in the way of this light in our souls. But if we keep ourselves pure and endeavor to live clean lives we can enjoy this light.

Matthew 6:22  ‘If your eye is pure, there will be sunshine in your soul.’

Matthew 6:22  The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light.  (NIV)

Many of the things that contaminate our lives are things we have entertained in our minds. Let’s work on keeping ourselves pure and uncontaminated, so that we can enjoy the light of God in our lives.

LIGHT IN OUR HEARTS

‘Our hearts’ is an interesting concept. Our hearts represent the center of our being. I remember when we discovered my wife was pregnant. The first thing we did was to go to the Doctor. The Doctor performed a scan and showed us a tiny flickering dot. This was the heart of my daughter. The heart is one of the first things to develop and when the heart stops, we die. It is the most vital organ. It is right there in this most vital area that we need God’s light. In the very center of our being.

Ephesians 5:8-10 For though once your heart was full of darkness, now it is full of light from the Lord, and your behavior should show it! Because of this light within you, you should do only what is good and right and true. Learn as you go along what pleases the Lord.

The Holy Spirit is the Source of Light

THE HOLY SPIRIT IS THE SOURCE OF LIGHT

The Holy Spirit wants to bring the light into our lives. He wants to give us fullness of joy. Have you ever experienced your electricity going off and having to find a candle or the electrical switch box in the total darkness? It is interesting to see that under such conditions, we can stumble and bump into things even within our own homes. Life can be like living in a dark house. Even though we know the house, it can still be a bumpy experience. That is why we need God’s light in our lives. The Holy Spirit is the person who wants to walk beside us and bring God’s light into our situations.

John 8:12  “I am the Light of the world. So if you follow me, you won’t be stumbling through the darkness, for living light will flood your path.”

EVER-BRIGHTENING LIGHT

We can enjoy the light of God in our lives, getting brighter and brighter.

Proverbs 4:18 But the good man walks along in the ever-brightening light of God’s favor; the dawn gives way to morning splendor.

I was watching the sun as it came up this morning. The dawn was beautiful, but as the rays of the sun broke over the landscape, there was richness and a beauty that is difficult to describe. In the same way as we experience more of God’s light in our lives, our beauty and value becomes more evident to others. It will be like sunshine in our souls. Something that we can enjoy and something that others will notice.

Sunshine in Your Soul

We all desire to know the light of God in our lives. We all need to know what it means to have sunshine. Light is one of the basic components of life, which we cannot do without. It is the same with our souls. We need light in our lives, light in our hearts and light in our souls. It is possible to know and enjoy the light that only God can give within our hearts and as such we can know what it is to have sunshine in our souls.

THE GOOD PERSON

If we are endeavoring to do what is right and good we can know light in our lives.

Proverbs 13:9 The good man’s life is full of light. The sinner’s road is dark and gloomy.

God’s desire is that those people who want to live good lives can enjoy a life that is full of light. When we have light in our souls we can enjoy full lives and we can be full of joy. Notice that there is the possibility of being full of light. As we grow we can enjoy more of this light shining in our lives.

The Greatest Blessing

A BLESSING FOR FOLLOWING GOD

There is a blessing in store for those who faithfully follow God. I know many people who have faithfully followed God over many years and through many seasons and I want to encourage you and remind you of God’s blessing.

Psalm 37:25 I have been young and now I am old. And in all my years I have never seen the Lord forsake a man who loves Him; nor have I seen the children of the godly go hungry.

Never get tired of following God. The blessings are promised and that is a guarantee!

THE GREATEST BLESSING

The greatest blessing we can ever know from God is to know His presence with us. We may be blessed financially or in any other way but that does not compare to knowing God’s blessing and the blessing of His presence in our lives.

Psalm 91:1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

Psalm 84:10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

Deuteronomy 28:4-6 Blessed shall be the fruit of your body, the produce of your ground and the increase of your herds, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flocks. Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl. Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out.

MY PRAYER FOR YOU

My desire is that you will know & experience God’s blessing on your life!

Psalm 129:8 The blessing of the Lord be upon you.

Prayer: Dear Lord, I pray that each person reading these notes will know what it is to walk in Your blessing. I pray that You will bless them and allow them to experience Your presence in their lives. Amen.

Numbers 6:24-26 The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.

A Lifetime of Blessing

EXPECTATION

We need to be expectant. We need to expect God’s blessing on our lives. Sometimes we are hoping our ‘ship will come in’ or that we will win some competition and have instant success. We need to shift our expectation in God’s direction. This is what faith is all about.

Psalm 62:5 My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him.

Expect God to bless you and your family!

A LIFETIME OF BLESSING

God’s blessing does not come and go. If you are endeavoring to follow after God with all your heart, you can expect His blessing on your life.

Psalm 68:19 Blessed be the Lord, Who daily loads us with benefits, the God of our salvation!

I love the phrase: ‘Who daily loads us with benefits’. The two words that I find most encouraging are:

1. ‘Daily’ – that means that from day to day God wants to bless us!
2. ‘Loads’ – Not just one blessing but a load of blessings.

This is what God has in store for those who love Him.

Our Greatest Wealth

OUR GREATEST WEALTH

God’s blessing is the greatest wealth we can know in our lives. We may be fortunate in every area of our lives but without God’s blessing on our lives and activities we are poor.

Proverbs 10:22 The Lord’s blessing is our greatest wealth. All our work adds nothing to it!

We cannot earn His blessing, we cannot add to His blessing, but we can respond to His blessing with thankfulness and by pursuing Him with all our hearts.

Deuteronomy 11:22-23 If you carefully observe all these commands I am giving you to follow—to love the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways and to hold fast to Him— then the LORD will drive out all these nations before you, and you will dispossess nations larger and stronger than you.

SEASONS

We all pass through seasons. Sometimes we think that God’s blessing is only present when everything is going right. This is not always the case. We pass through seasons and that is simply part of life. The issue is that God is still with us even in these seasons.

Psalm 23:2-4 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.  Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.

David writes in this verse about a season of ‘the valley of the shadow of death’. We all have difficult seasons, but that does not mean God is not with us. He wants to carry us through these seasons.

The Blessing of God

Have you ever longed to know the blessing of God on your life? It is a good and a right desire to long for God’s blessing on your life. What is even more exciting is that God wants to bless us.  As you read these notes may His presence touch your life and may there be an explosion of faith within you to receive more of the blessing that God has in store for you.  God wants to bless you and He desires that you would know His blessing on your life!

GOD’S INTENTION

God’s intention is to bless us. There are many places in the bible where we can read about God’s blessings that He wants us to experience and enjoy!

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

When we have the blessing of God on our lives, it adds to our lives.

Proverbs 10:22 The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it.

The Comfort of God’s Word

THE RESULT OF KNOWING THE COMFORT OF GOD

When we have known and experienced God’s comfort we in turn can show comfort to others.

2 Corinthians 1:4 And why does He do this? So that when others are troubled, needing our sympathy and encouragement, we can pass on to them this same help and comfort God has given us.

Do you know anyone who needs comfort right now? Perhaps you can be the source of comfort that that person needs. As God’s comfort is real in our lives we can pass this comfort on to others.

1 Thessalonians 5:14 Dear brothers, warn those who are lazy, comfort those who are frightened, take tender care of those who are weak, and be patient with everyone.

THE COMFORT OF GOD’S WORD.

I have found God’s word, the Bible, to be a great source of comfort in my life. As God has given me His promises, they have been a great source of strength and comfort in my life.

Psalm 119:52 From my earliest youth I have tried to obey You; Your Word has been my comfort.

If God has given you promises, hold onto them. Don’t let them go. Let God’s word be a source of comfort and strength in your life.

THE PRAYER

Here is my prayer for you.

2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 May our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting comfort and hope, which we don’t deserve, comfort your hearts with all comfort, and help you in every good thing you say and do.

Here is a prayer you can pray for yourself.

Psalm 119:76 Now let Your loving-kindness comfort me, just as You promised.

We need to learn to walk, as a lifestyle, in the comfort that God offers.

Acts 9:31 The believers learned how to walk in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit.

May you know the comfort of God in your life!

Comfort In Difficulty

HOW DOES GOD COMFORT US?

There are so many ways in which God wants to comfort us. It is interesting to look at some verses from the Bible that explains to us just how God wants to comfort us.

Isaiah 66:13 As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you.

There is something about the way a mother comforts a child that no other individual can do. God wants to comfort you in a way that no one else would ever be able to comfort you.

Psalm 27:10 For if my father and mother should abandon me, You would welcome and comfort me.

It is as though God is ready and waiting to pick us up and make us His own.

Psalm 10:17 Lord, You know the hopes of humble people. Surely You will hear their cries and comfort their hearts by helping them.

God comforts us by stepping into our situations and helping us.

Isaiah 61:1 He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted.

God can also comfort us by using other people, who He has called as comforters, to comfort us.

COMFORT IN DIFFICULTY

It is usually when we face difficulty that we need comfort.

2 Corinthians 1:6 But in our trouble God has comforted us.

In those desperate moments in life God wants to come through and comfort us. We face difficulty every day but there are certain times in life when we all face immense trouble. It is in the heat of these times that God wants us to know His comfort in an extra-ordinary way. When this happens we know what it means to be carried by God.
