Your Breakthrough is Awaiting You

YOUR BREAKTHROUGH IS AWAITING YOU.

I believe that God has got breakthrough for each of us. If we give up and throw in the towel we will miss the breakthrough that God has for us. It is only as we continue to hold onto God that the possibility of breakthrough can become a reality. With God anything can happen! We must not limit God in any way. Your breakthrough is waiting for you. Hold on and keep on holding on!

STOP THE ROT!

We must fight against those things, which would undermine our trust and expectation in what God can do. Rot sets in when we begin to DOUBT. Doubt in turn leads to disbelief and this in turn leads to a feeling that nothing can change. In the process we begin to feel that God has forgotten about us or that He is unaware of our situation. Nothing could be further from the truth. Don’t allow this kind of rot to take root in your heart! Deal ruthlessly with things that would cause you to doubt.

It’s Time for Breakthrough

We all long to experience breakthrough in some area of our lives. I can almost guarantee that right now there is some area in which you would love to experience a breakthrough. Breakthrough is part of God’s plan for you. No matter how long you have been trusting God, it is not the time to get discouraged and give up. Now is the time to trust God and to hold on to what He has said and to believe Him with expectant hearts. God is able to turn any situation around and He is able to make a way where there seems to be no way.

GOD’S PLAN

God’s plan is that we should experience breakthrough.

DEFINITION:

1. The dictionary tells us that a breakthrough is a ‘major advance’.

2. An instance of breaking through an obstruction.

3. A sudden advance.

Perhaps you have been battling in some area or another and God wants to step in and bring a MAJOR ADVANCE. Breakthrough means a major step forward from where you are. It includes release, liberation and freedom. Nothing is hard for God! Nothing you are facing, experiencing or trusting God for, is He unable to perform!

Jeremiah 32:27 I am the Lord, the God of all mankind; is there anything too hard for me?

Jeremiah 32:15 O Lord God! You have made the heavens and earth by your great power; nothing is too hard for you!

God Has Something Good in Store

SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE

Luke 11:10 Everyone who asks, receives; all who seek, find; and the door is opened to everyone who knocks.

This is perhaps the most rewarding scripture. The issue is that everyone receives. This is also a promise. If we will pray, asking and seeking and knocking at God’s door, holding on through the ‘faith period’, God has something in store for us. What do you think the implications are for you in the light of this scripture? We may not get exactly what we ask for, but perhaps we will get what is right and best for us. The key words in this scripture are ‘everyone and all’. That includes you!

GOD HAS SOMETHING GOOD IN STORE

This is something special. God has something good in store for each one of us. As we ask God and seek God and knock, God wants to bless us with good things.

Luke 11:11-13 “You men who are fathers—if your boy asks for bread, do you give him a stone? If he asks for fish, do you give him a snake? If he asks for an egg, do you give him a scorpion? Of course not! “And if even sinful persons like yourselves give children what they need, don’t you realize that your heavenly Father will do at least as much, and give the Holy Spirit to those who ask for him?”

We can trust God!

WE NEED THE HOLY SPIRIT

We need the Holy Spirit in the all-important aspect of prayer.

Romans 8:26 And in the same way—by our faith—the Holy Spirit helps us with our daily problems and in our praying. For we don’t even know what we should pray for nor how to pray as we should, but the Holy Spirit prays for us with such feeling that it cannot be expressed in words.

The aspect of prayer is something most Christians battle with. Again God has provided someone who will help us in our praying. Our Heavenly Father will give us His Holy Spirit to help us. Prayer is not a matter that has been left totally to us. We have been given someone who will help us and He is the Holy Spirit.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, we invite you into our lives. Please come and help us in our daily lives and in our praying. We need you! Amen.

The Reward

THE REWARD

Luke 11:9 So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

Jesus makes it very clear that those who keep on asking, seeking, and knocking will receive!  It is clear from the three statements in the above verse:

1. ‘It will be given to you!‘

2. ‘You will find!‘

3. ‘It will be opened to you.’

These three statements are all in the future tense. The implication is that between the asking, seeking and knocking there may well be a period of time! The best name for this period is the ‘faith period’.

THE FAITH PERIOD

This is perhaps the most difficult period. It is in this period that we can blow it or press through to it. What usually happens in this period? I believe that there are basically two things that can take place.

1. We can believe and hold on.

2. We can doubt.

It is during this period that we need to resist all unbelief and doubt and hang in, in faith. Doubt will come and that is why we must not allow it to overwhelm us. In this faith period we must keep on asking, seeking and knocking!

Ask, Seek and Knock

PERSISTENCE IS IMPORTANT

Persistence is an important part of prayer. There has tended to be a message that we should just pray once. The Bible has a different emphasis.

Luke 11:5-8 Then, teaching them more about prayer, he used this illustration: “Suppose you went to a friend’s house at midnight, wanting to borrow three loaves of bread. You would shout up to him, ‘A friend of mine has just arrived for a visit and I’ve nothing to give him to eat.’ He would call down from his bedroom, ‘Please don’t ask me to get up. The door is locked for the night and we are all in bed. I just can’t help you this time.’ “But I’ll tell you this—though he won’t do it as a friend, if you keep knocking long enough, he will get up and give you everything you want—just because of your persistence.

We should come and ask again and again and again. There is another example in Luke 18:1-8. Persistence is an important key in prayer.

ASK, SEEK AND KNOCK

Luke 11:9 So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

Remember these are the words of Jesus. The words ask, seek and knock, are all in the present tense. This means is that we should be continually asking, seeking, knocking. There is something very direct in the way in which Jesus says these words. It is almost as if they are an instruction or a command. If that is the case, the best thing we could do is take it to heart. Asking, seeking and knocking are things that we can do. This aspect encourages a little bit of determination in my heart.

A Desire to Pray

A DESIRE TO PRAY

We know that when Jesus was on earth, there were occasions when He prayed and some of these occasions where witnessed by the disciples. The result was that they also had a desire to pray.

Luke 11:1 One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray”.

Notice two things:

1. Even though they walked with Jesus and were known as disciples they still needed clarity in the issue of prayer.
2. There was a desire within them to pray, especially as they had seen Jesus doing.

A desire to pray is a good thing. We often complicate the matter and end up not praying. Let us trust that there will be a new stirring within us and a new desire to pray.

JESUS GIVES THE PATTERN

In response to the request from the disciples, Jesus gives them a pattern as to how to pray. You can read about it in Luke 11:2-4

A. Remember, we are praying to our Father!
‘Our Father in heaven, …’

B. He must always be highly respected!
‘ … hallowed be your name.’

C. His kingdom must always be a priority to us!
‘ … Your kingdom come …’

D. We must always do His will!
‘ … Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.’

E. We must look to Him as the source of all things.
‘Give us day by day our daily bread.’

F. He is the One who forgives our sin!
‘ … and forgive us our sins, … ‘

G. We need to forgive others!
‘ … for we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us.’

H. Only God can lead us away from temptation!
‘ … and do not lead us into temptation, … ‘

I. He can give us victory!
‘ … but deliver us from the evil one.’

Prayer – The Way to God

Prayer is an important part of our lives. Especially for Christians, prayer plays an important role. It is the way that we have been given to have contact with God. Jesus was the one who taught us how to pray and we can follow His example. Sometimes we complicate the matter when in fact it is simple. Prayer is simply talking to God. This is something that we can do as we go about our daily responsibilities and tasks.

JESUS PRAYED

Even though Jesus was God, prayer was still an important component of His life. It is recorded on several occasions how that Jesus went and prayed.

Luke 11:1 One day Jesus was praying in a certain place.

Luke 9:18 Once when Jesus was praying in private and his disciples were with him.

Even when Jesus was dying on the cross this prayer or talking to God the Father was taking place.

Luke 23:32-34 Two others, criminals, were led out to be executed with him at a place called “The Skull.” There all three were crucified—Jesus on the center cross, and the two criminals on either side. “Father, forgive these people,” Jesus said, “for they don’t know what they are doing.”

Jesus set an example for us to follow. No matter what we may be going through and no matter what we may be facing, prayer should be a vital part of our lives.

Reflecting Gods Light

IT IS ALL FOR A REASON

Why would we need to be changed? Why would we need to allow the light that God has placed within us to shine for others to see? The reason is that God wants to use each one of us to touch the lives of others so that they can also be changed and begin to shine from the inside themselves. We need to shine from the inside so that others can see.

Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see.

When we are shining from the inside others will be able to see what God has available to them. And as a result those who see this light will want to praise God themselves.

Matthew 5:15-16 Don’t hide your light! Let it shine for all; let your good deeds glow for all to see, so that they will praise your heavenly Father.

REFLECTING GOD’S LIGHT

As Christian this is what we need to do. We need to reflect God’s light. This can only happen as we allow God to touch and change us.

2 Corinthians 3:18 But we Christians have no veil over our faces; we can be mirrors that brightly reflect the glory of the Lord. And as the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like him.

For a mirror to reflect it has to point in the right direction.

Psalm 34:4-5 I sought the LORD, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to Him are radiant.

Keep on shining from the inside. God loves you and you are valuable and precious to Him.

A Light Inside of Us

A LIGHT INSIDE OF US

God wants to place His living light inside of us.

John 8:12 Jesus said to the people, “I am the Light of the world. So if you follow me, you won’t be stumbling through the darkness, for living light will flood your path.”

There is the very real possibility that as we allow God to touch and change us we can know this living light in our lives. The issue is that others should be able to see this light.

Matthew 5:15-16 Don’t hide your light! Let it shine for all; let your good deeds glow for all to see, so that they will praise your heavenly Father. (Living Bible)

Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

The issue is that we must let our light shine. We can be shining from the inside out!

WE CAN HAVE AN EFFECT

If we have allowed God to touch us and change us then we in turn can have an effect and touch the lives of those around us. We cannot be an instrument of change in others lives if we have not known the change in our hearts and lives. But once we have tasted the change we can have an effect on the lives of others. The Bible tells us that we can be like salt. Salt has the ability of making something tasteless, tasty.

Matthew 5:13 You are the world’s seasoning, to make it tolerable. If you lose your flavor, what will happen to the world?

We must allow the change that God has done in us to touch the lives of those around us.

Changed on the Inside

CHANGED ON THE INSIDE

When God touches our lives things are different. I remember my own grandfather, when he became a Christian, his life changed completely. The change was actually a radical change. Perhaps you can remember when God touched your life and the changes that it brought. You see, it is very difficult to really change ourselves. But when God steps in He does the changes.

2 Corinthians 5:17 When someone becomes a Christian, he becomes a brand new person inside. He is not the same anymore. A new life has begun! All these new things are from God.

When we allow God to touch our lives He brings about change in a most wonderful way.

WHAT GOD DOES ON THE INSIDE

As we have seen from the above point God has done something new in our lives if we have allowed Him into our lives. The issue is that the living God wants to find a home in our hearts. As a result things change. God does not refurbish us but He makes us new. Not perfect but with a spark of something new and fresh on the inside. From this point we have the opportunity of developing our relationship with God.

Ezekiel 36:27 And I will put my Spirit within you so that you will obey my laws and do whatever I command.
