Jesus Is The Door

THERE IS ONLY ONE DOOR

To get to the things of God and God Himself, there is only one door. His name is Jesus. There is no other door. Don’t try to look for another one door – It wastes time. All roads do NOT lead to God. Only one does – Jesus.

Acts 4:12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.

JESUS IS THE DOOR

Jesus said: ‘I am the door’.

Look for everything of God in Jesus. Don’t look anywhere else. The door is a person, whose name is Jesus. The door is not in ceremonies. The door is not in doctrines. The door is not in achievements. But the door is Jesus Himself.

HOW DO WE USE THIS DOOR?

We are meant to go into and through the door. We are not meant to watch the door. We are not meant to sit at the door. We are not meant to guard the door. We were meant to enter the door.

John 10:9 ‘I am the door. Any one who enters in through me will be saved – will live; he will come in and go out freely, and will find pasture.’

Jesus is the door to all that God offers us.

The Door

A door is a common object, but a very necessary one. Imagine a room with no door. It would be practically useless. A door makes what a room offers useful. We have a door and His name is Jesus

WHO IS THE DOOR

Jesus is the door. He is the door to all that God has promised you and me.  He is the door to life and life in abundance.

John 10:9 ‘I am the door.’

The picture Jesus is using here is of a shepherd and sheep. The door is the door to the sheepfold. This is one of the humblest types of door.

THE NEED FOR THE DOOR

Without a door you cannot access something. A door is a point of access. It makes the room usable Because there is access to God, through the door of Jesus, we can get hold of all that God has in store for us. As a result we can have access to God. We can have access to His peace. We can have access to His truth. We can have access to His Salvation. We can have access to His presence. We can have access to heaven. All through the door of Jesus.

Thus Far The Lord Has Helped Us

GOD WANTS TO HELP US BY DOING WHAT HE SAID HE WOULD DO

What has God promised? He wants to do what He said He would do. Hold onto all that God has spoken concerning your life.

Joshua 21:44-45 The Lord helped them destroy all their enemies and every good thing the Lord had promised them came true.

God wants to fulfill His promises. This is also a way in which He wants to help us.

THE RESULT OF KNOWING HIS HELP IS THAT WE CAN REST

How different from the world’s perspective.

Psalm 63:6-8 I lie awake at night thinking of you – of how much you have helped me.  How I rejoice through the night beneath the protecting shadow of your wings.  I follow close behind you, protected by your strong right arm.

It is time to follow close behind God. It is time to stick to Him.

Psalm 116:7 Now I can relax.  For the Lord has done this wonderful miracle for me.

Can you conceive that God would desire that you rest?

THUS FAR THE LORD HAS HELPED US

If He has helped us this far, He will help us further.

1 Samuel 7:12 Then Samuel took a stone, and named it Ebenezer, saying Thus far has the LORD helped us.

Let’s rejoice in His help so far and let’s expect His help for the future!

God Helps Those Who Trust

GOD HELPS THOSE WHO TRUST

We need to trust the Lord.

Jeremiah 39:18  “As a reward for trusting me, I will preserve your life and keep you safe.”

We seem to feel more comfortable in trusting ourselves than in trusting the creator of the universe.

Psalm 28:7 He is my strength, my shield from every danger.  I trusted in Him, and He helped me.

Trusting God calls for FAITH. Faith is the thing that moves GOD.

IF GOD IS OUR HELPER, WE ARE HAPPY

The result of trusting God and Him helping us brings joy into our lives.

Psalm 28:7 He is my strength, my shield from every danger.  I trusted in Him, and He helped me.  Joy rises in my heart until I burst out in songs of praise to Him.

David knew this joy.

Psalm 146:5 But happy is the man who has the God of Jacob as his helper, whose hope is in the Lord his God.

Is God your helper or do you just help yourself along the path of life? There is a dimension in which we can know God as a helper throughout our lives.

God Wants To Help Us From Stumbling

GOD WANTS TO HELP US FROM STUMBLING

God does not desire that would stumble. He wants us to be able to keep going.

Psalm 116:7&8 Now I can relax.  For the Lord has done this wonderful miracle for me.  He has saved me from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling.

The Lord wants to keep us from stumbling. He wants to be like a father who spares his child from stumbling. He wants to provide for us.

HE WANTS TO HELP US TELL OTHERS ABOUT JESUS

God wants to help us with this aspect and it is great to know that we are not on our own.

2 Corinthians 3:6 He is the one who has helped us tell others about his new agreement to save them.  We do not tell them that they must obey every law of God or die; but we tell them there is life for them from the Holy Spirit.  The old way, trying to be saved by keeping the Ten Commandments, ends in death; in the new way, the Holy Spirit gives them life.

God wants to help us as we tell others that the Holy Spirit is available to give new life.

God Wants To Help Us With Our Fears

THE LORD WANTS TO HELP US BY SAVING US FROM DEATH

This applies to our lives and to when we die. The Lord wants to preserve our lives.

Psalm 64:1 Hear my voice, O God, in my prayer: preserve my life from fear of the enemy.

Ultimately God wants to give each one of us eternal life. This is His plan that we should never die, but be saved to live with Him. Here is a promise.

Psalm 116:9 I shall live! Yes, in His presence – here on earth!

Jeremiah. 39:18 As a reward for trusting Me, I will preserve your life and keep you safe.

If only we would trust God!

GOD WANTS TO HELP US WITH OUR FEARS

Fears can have a tremendous force in our lives and can literally rob us of life. Even David feared.

Psalm 64:1 Hear my voice, O God, in my prayer: preserve my life from fear of the enemy.

David asked God to preserve him from the fear of the enemy. Fear itself can be greater that the actual reality. What fears are you facing?  Many people are fear ridden. God wants to help you with your fears.

The Lord Has Helped Us

Life is not always easy. We are constantly challenged and having to face many changing things. The economies of the world seem to be a roll-a-coaster ride. But the Lord has been good and He has certainly helped us. Life just seems to get busier and busier.  In all of this it is good to know that God has helped and in the same way He will help us in the future.  The Lord wants to be good to us again and wants to help us through this next season.

THE LORD WANTS TO HELP US

It is God’s desire to help us.

2 Chronicles 32:8… With us is the LORD our God to help us…

The people of God in the Old Testament understood this.

Deuteronomy 3:3 So the Lord helped us fight …..

1 Samuel 30:23 But David said, … “The Lord has kept us safe and helped us defeat the enemy.”

God helped His people. God wants to help you and I today.

Hold On To God’s Promises

THE RESULT OF THE PROMISES

To bring glory to God. We can bring glory to God because He has come down to us in His love and made promises to us. We can glorify God when we see Him keeping His promises. We can glorify God by expecting what He has promised. We can glorify God when the promise comes through.

HOLD ON TO GOD’S PROMISES

If you have promises that God has given you – hold on to them! Don’t give up and despair! When people in business add up their income, they add the cheques and the cash and the cheques are as good as cash when they make up their banking. But cheques are not cash they are only promises. It’s like that with God. Some things we have already and some are still in the form of a promise. But in God’s eyes it is one and the same.

Trust God’s word and take His promises as true.

God’s Promises Can Be Depended On

WHAT DOES GOD PROMISE?

God’s promises cover almost every aspect of our lives. There are promises concerning health. There are promises concerning provision and supply. There are promises of protection. There are promises of eternal life. There are promises for individuals and groups. There are promises that hold for a moment. And others that hold for eternity. There are general promises and personal promises.  God’s promises can include every aspect of our lives.

GOD’S PROMISES CAN BE DEPENDED ON

You can depend on God’s promises.

2 Corinthians 1:20 ‘For all the promises of God in Him, are yea and in Him Amen, to the glory of God by us.’

Yea is a Greek word and amen is a Hebrew word. They were used to give certainty. The writer is endeavoring to convince both Greeks and Hebrews that God’s promises are sure and we can depend on them. Today these same words are there to reassure you and me that God’s promises can be depended on.

Where Do We Find The Promises

WHERE DO WE FIND THE PROMISES

In the Bible. In the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Bible is full of God’s promises. From Genesis to Revelations. We find them running through centuries of time.If an aspect of God’s word has come alive to you – it could very well be a promise from God to you.

WHAT TYPES OF PROMISES ARE THERE?

There are many different types of promises. Promises that God will do something. Many promises are unconditional.

Jeremiah 31:3 ‘I have loved you with an everlasting love: therefore with loving kindness have I drawn you.’

Other promises are conditional.

Lamentations 3:25 ‘The Lord is wonderfully good to those who wait for Him and to those who seek Him.’

The promise of God’s goodness is conditional to our waiting and seeking of God. God promises can be depended on.
