Active Faith

Faith is something that God has planted within each one of us. Our faith was meant to be active. This means that our faith should be operational. We were never meant to be passive Christians. Faith is a journey that our hearts have to take. Faith is not some strange value.
It is something alive within us that propels us into what God has for us.

1 Timothy 1:19 Cling tightly to your faith in Christ.

WHAT IS FAITH?

We need to understand this vital aspect of faith. The Bible gives us a definition.

Hebrews 11:1   What is faith? It is the confident assurance that something we want is going to happen. It is the certainty that what we hope for is waiting for us, even though we cannot see it up ahead.

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (NKJV)

It is that confident assurance within us that allows us to trust God and to be expectant of Him.

A MEASURE OF FAITH

Faith is something that has been placed within us. It is as if God has carefully planted, within each one of us, this deposit of faith.

Romans 12:3 God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

Somewhere deep within us we have this special quality.
This ability to trust in God.

May God direct you

PUTTING GOD FIRST

This is a very important aspect. If we will put God first in our lives, then we can expect that He will direct our lives. Putting God first in all you do is something you need to do. We must put God first, making Him our priority. There is a reward! He will direct our efforts. He will give us success. What more could we want?

Proverbs 3:6 In everything you do, put God first, and he will direct you and crown your efforts with success. (Living Bible)

Proverbs 3:6 in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. (NIV)

Proverbs 3:6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. (NKJV)

MAY GOD DIRECT YOU

This is my desire for each one of us. That we would know the hand of God directing our lives is the greatest joy that the human heart can ever know. My prayer for you is that you would know God’s direction in your life. When we directed by God we discover that we have found His love for us.

2 Thessalonians 3:5 May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.

May God led guide and direct you into His love today.

Trusting God to direct us

IN GOD’S PLAN, HE IS THE DIRECTOR

Mankind feels that they should be in charge of their own destiny. I keep hearing phrases like: ‘the individual is sovereign’. Directing our own lives is the philosophy of the day.
But what was God’s original plan and intention for us, His creation?

Jeremiah 10:23 I know, O LORD, that a man’s life is not his own; it is not for man to direct his steps.

It is so different from what the world is telling us. It is God’s responsibility to direct our steps and be the director of our lives, not ours.

TRUSTING GOD TO DIRECT US

In our day-to-day lives we need to begin to trust God to direct us. There must be this constant expectation that God wants to lead and direct us. We must begin to rely more and more on Him and his direction in our lives. This journey of dependence is vital. Begin by expecting God to direct you in the small things and then begin to depend on Him for the big things. In the process we will learn what it means to be dependent on God and will be directed by Him in the process.

Proverbs 16:9 We should make plans—counting on God to direct us.

If God directs us we can be confident

GOD’S DIRECTION

Psalm 37:23-24 The steps of good men are directed by the Lord. He delights in each step they take. If they fall, it isn’t fatal, for the Lord holds them with his hand.

In what ways does God want to direct our steps? I believe that God wants to point us in a specific direction. He wants to move us towards something that is what we were appointed or created to do. He wants to show us the way we need to go. He wants to point out the course that He has destined for us. He wants to guide us every step of the way.

IF GOD DIRECTS US WE CAN BE CONFIDENT

If God, who is the creator of the universe, can direct us as individuals, we can have confidence. God’s plans for us are for our good.

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

If we will allow God to direct us then He will bring these plans to pass. As God is allowed to protect us there is protection.

Psalm 119:133 Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me.

If God is allowed to direct our footsteps, we can be confident.

Our delight should be to be directed by God

LIKE A SHEPHERD

A shepherd has a way of working with sheep. A shepherd guides and directs his sheep each step of the way. That is exactly what God wants to do in our lives. God wants to gentle lead and direct us each step of the way.

Psalm 23:1-2 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside quiet waters.

God wants to be a Good Shepherd to you today. He knows what is in our best interests and He wants to lead, guide and direct us to that point.

OUR DELIGHT SHOULD BE TO BE DIRECTED BY GOD

We should desire to be directed by God. Deep within us there should be a longing for God to direct our lives and the affairs of our lives. I believe that within each of us, God has placed such a desire. But sometimes we just get so busy directing our own lives that we do not allow God to give us the direction that we are looking for.

Psalm 119:35 Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight.

There comes a time in everyone’s life where they want to totally entrust their lives into the hands of another. There is only one whose hands can be depended on to lead and direct us into the best thing for us and His name is Jesus.

Directed By God

Is it possible to know that our lives are being directed by God? I believe that the answer is yes. For those who will entrust their lives to God, there exists the very real possibility that they can know what it means to have their lives directed by the hand of God. God wants to lead and guide us. God wants to make sure that we reach our purpose and destiny in Him.
God has a plan for each one of us and if we will allow Him, He will direct the affairs of our lives to bring us to that point, from where we can step into the greatness that He has for us. Do you desire God to direct your life? I do.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN

What does it mean to have our lives directed by God? I have done a lot of directing to television purposes. The process involves coordinating people and equipment in order to produce a product that can be used. Each element on its own cannot produce the end result. But together, when all the elements are directed together, a great product is produced. It is much the same in our lives. God has the big picture and He is able to direct affairs so that the end product of our lives can be something useful and beautiful.
When God directs our lives, He directs the activities and the course of our lives. He wants to energize and supervise the aspects of our lives to bring us into the place He has designed for us. He wants to lead us!

The choice is yours

THE REWARDS

We can accomplish something worthwhile – BY THE HOLY SPIRIT. He wants to give us LIFE. He wants to help us with our daily problems.

Romans 8:26 ‘And in the same way – by our faith – the Holy Spirit helps us with our daily problems and in our praying.  For we don’t even know what we should pray for nor how to pray as we should, but the Holy Spirit prays for us with such feeling that it cannot be expressed in words’

Imagine someone like this, who wants to help us with our daily problems, give us LIFE and help us accomplish something. That would give us purpose and meaning.

THE CHOICE IS YOURS

To pursue or to allow the HOLY SPIRIT. We need to choose and make a decision. It will demand that the Holy Spirit becomes our life’s pursuit. All other is secondary. No matter what your age or your circumstances, it is never too late to decide to pursue the Holy Spirit. Passive permission or passionate pursuit.

PRAYER

Do you long for the Holy Spirit? Do you wish to pursue the HOLY SPIRIT? It is time to stop allowing, permitting or tolerating the HOLY SPIRIT.  It is time to start pursuing the HOLY SPIRIT with all that we have, giving Him the ultimate place in our lives, as He begins to show us Jesus and in this way makes JESUS a living reality to us on a day-to-day basis.

The Holy Spirit wants to give life to us

BY MY SPIRIT

The Bible indicates that the role of the Spirit is the only way to achieve effective results and live effective lives.

Zechariah 4:6 ‘Not by might nor by power but by my Spirit says the Lord.’

Only by the Holy Spirit can we accomplish what God has destined for us.  The Holy Spirit is the key.  Do you desire to know Jesus more?  Pursue the Holy Spirit.  He shows us Jesus:

John 15:26 ‘When the counselor comes, whom I (Jesus) will send to you from the Father………He will testify about me.’

The Holy Spirit has come and He wants to make Jesus more real to each of us.

THE HOLY SPIRIT WANTS TO GIVE LIFE TO US

Romans 8:11 ‘ And if the Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, He will also give life to your mortal bodies, through His Spirit, who lives in you.’

I believe this refers to eternal life to our dying bodies.  I also believe that the HOLY SPIRIT wants to give life to us during our earthly existence.  Are you like a dead man walking?  You feel dead in a living body.  I have met people like this.  The Holy Spirit wants to change all this and help us in life.  If only we would pursue HIM.

To pursue means to seek after

PURSUING THE HOLY SPIRIT

Pursuing the Holy Spirit is totally different from allowing the Holy Spirit in our lives. This is the key.  This is the aspect we need to understand and grab with both hands.   The definition of pursue has a different meaning to the word allow.   The dictionary gives the following meanings: ‘follow with the intention to capture or attract.’  Here we see determination and purpose.  It is our full intention to capture that which the Holy Spirit has for us.  It is our intention to follow the Holy Spirit in order to attract Him.  Can you picture it?  Following the Holy Spirit with determination with the full purpose of attracting Him, or capturing something of Him.  This excites me!

TO PURSUE MEANS ALSO TO SEEK AFTER

What does it mean to seek after? It speaks to me of a passionate pursuit.  It indicates a persistent, and continual following after.  The word “seek” could almost go as far as to mean “hunt”, like hunting with determination for something that was lost.  There is a degree of determination in this type of seeking.  It does not mean we will just bump into it when it appears.

How are you doing?  We need to seek after, pursue with the purpose of attracting and follow the Holy Spirit with the intention of realizing all that He has instore for us.

Allowing the Holy Spirit

THERE IS A GREAT DIFFERENCE

Never underestimate the greatness of this difference. It can lead to nominal Christianity or it can lead to radical fervent Christianity.  I have always desired to be on fire for God.  Many throughout history have desired this. Few have discovered it.  The key is pursuing the Holy Spirit.  What is the difference between allowing the Holy Spirit and pursuing the Holy Spirit?

ALLOWING THE HOLY SPIRIT

To understand this we need to have a definition.  The dictionary indicates what the word “allow” means.  To allow means to permit.  This is how some well-meaning Christians live.  They allow the Holy Spirit or permit Him to work in their lives or churches.  It is almost a form of tolerance.  Making allowances for the Holy Spirit.  The definition goes on to define the word allow with the phrase:

“Give periodically” – some Christians live like this as they give the Holy Spirit periodic opportunity, at their discretion.  In this way the Holy Spirit is accommodated in people’s lives, together with all the other aspects of life.  Pursuing the Holy Spirit is totally different.
